Hear One School System’s COVID-19 Survival Story

Leaders from Ambassador, Aviation Institute of Maintenance, Centura College and Tidewater Tech Detail Game Plan for Distance Learning and Eventually a Return to Campus

The CSPEN COVID-19 webinar series recently featured an action plan implemented by the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, Centura College and Tidewater Tech as they navigate distance learning and survive the pandemic. The webinar, which can be accessed here, was hosted by CSPEN and led by Dr. Joel English, Executive Vice President of the three schools, and Bruce Schneider, Vice President of Business Engineering at Ambassador Education Solutions.

In the presentation, Dr. English shared the 13-week progression that the school system is going through, including a visual timeline of what they have done each week thus far to survive. As the schools just completed week eight of the game plan, Dr. English also shared their approach for the next five weeks as they remain flexible and look to slowly bring students back into the lab for technical coursework.

Sharing his perspective on the best ways to support students throughout the distance learning process, Mr. Schneider reviewed the importance of equitable access, including device and connectivity programs, as well as course materials accessibility and fulfillment through a school’s online bookstore and/or Inclusive Access program. He also shared advice for schools to make the course materials process as easy and straight forward as possible, including critical things that must happen on the back end such as integrations, (multiple platforms), content aggregation from multiple sources (publishers, OER, courseware, testing), data and analytics (aligning usage and transactions) and payment processes (vouchers and financial aid).

“Thirteen Weeks: An Anatomy of a School System’s Survival Through the Pandemic” is the latest in a series of insightful webinars put on by CSPEN. The entire COVID-19 webinar series is available here.
